2020 has been unconventional, to say the least. We have a lot to be thankful for, but it is fair to feel let down if your long-planned trip to Italy, or hiking excursion in Kelowna, has to be put off until we’re past this pandemic.
So, what can we do if our backyards are the farthest place we’re traveling to this summer? Embrace it! With a little planning (and zero packing – BONUS!), you can have a fabulous, stress-free staycation by following these tips:
Create luxury in your home
You want a luxury vacation – even if it is a staycation. You don’t want to inadvertently spend your time off getting sucked into house to-dos. Book a cleaning service before and after your staycation. That way, you’ll know everything is taken care of so you can truly relax.
Book a Gourmet Chef
Cooking is fun, but on your staycation, let someone else plan the menu. Hire a gourmet Chef to drop off meals that will have you 5-star dining every night. This will set your staycation apart from your everyday. You may even forget you’re at home!
Operate on Island Time
A good vacation feels like time has stopped. Recreate that feeling (literally!) by unplugging all but a few of your clocks. Wake, eat, nap, and go to bed when the desire strikes. And while you’re at it, unplug from devices and the news too.
Do What You Love
Just like you’d pre-plan things to do on your away vacation, do the same for your staycation. Whatever makes you happy is worth building into your itinerary. Reserve an afternoon at an at-home spa experience, take a yoga retreat in your living room or spend the whole week reading, journaling, or watching your favourite films.
However you spend your time, make it special by doing the things you love – eat by candlelight, have a date night, turn your phone off, pamper yourself with all your favourite things – after all, you’re on vacation!
